What Is NLP?
When people ask what is NLP? It is best to start with what it gives people:
- Powerful techniques for behavioural change
- Effective communication and rapport
- Language patterns of influence and impact
- Attitude of curiosity and possibilities
- Enriching people's experience of life
It is the 'USER MANUAL FOR THE BRAIN!'
What Does It Stand For?
The nervous system and how we gather and process information received through our five senses.
The language and other non-verbal systems through which we give our internal representations meaning and is stored.
The patterns, programs and strategies that we run in our nervous system to achieve our outcomes
NLP draws from many different fields:
- NEURO SCIENCE
- BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE
- TRANSFORMATIONAL GRAMMAR
So How did it come about?
It came about in the 1970's when computer scientist Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder, asked the simple question: "Why are some people exceptional at what they do and others merely competent?"
From asking this question they spent time with leaders of their fields, people who were exceptional at what they did, including:
- Even people who spontaneously overcame phobias!
Through spending time with these people, they put together a model of how they thought, communicated, the strategies they used and the attitude they carried. They looked at how they structured their internal world, how they got such great results and how to model and replicate these results.
They noticed the common themes and NLP was born!
WHO IS IT FOR?
NLP attracts people who want to have a better experience of being human, for those who want to have success both in their personal and business life. Often this is:

NLP is studied in three stages:
