Anxiety is the nagging voice in the back of your mind, its the place in your mind where doubt lives, the dark hole who’s walls feel insurmountable. It is imagining the worst, the feeling of dread, of overwhelm and confusion. Its the heart beating in you chest and the not having the words to express what you need or whats wrong because even you don’t know what that is.
If this resonates with any of you then this is because I know this feeling well and I speak from first hand experience. I have been to the deep depths of anxiety management and back.
People often ask me ‘what is anxiety?’
Anxiety is many different things:
The continual state of alert –
Always on edge and feeling nervous, this is exhausting, draining and feels impossible to switch off.
Imaging the worst –
Always imagining things going wrong, exploring every possible way events can play out, over and over. Not solving anything, but working yourself into a feeling of panic.
Avoiding taking action –
Lacking in concentration, flitting from on thing to another, can’t make decisions, not getting anything done, or getting so obsessed with something there is no time for anything else.
Talking to yourself
Spending all your time inside your own head, talking to yourself, being cruel to yourself, feeling like there are many voices in your head.
It is part of life, NOT the whole of it
Anxiety is a part of life and everyone feels it at certain times, it is unavoidable. In fact as a living organism we need it for survival, to get excited and for passions.
However, I know from my own experiences and the 100’s of people I have helped over the last ten years, that it need not be a permanent feature, it can be managed and life can be very different.
Believe it or not, I am very grateful for the experiences of anxiety I have had. It is during theses times, which much motivation came, motivation to be different, to reflect, to learn, to challenge myself, to grow and transition from one way of being into another.
When you realise that anxiety is a physiological and psychological program that can be updated, rewritten, adjusted, and managed, it is a relief. I remember when I discovered you can create calm in your life, live in the moment, face your fears and you are so much more than your anxiety.
It is about having the skills which educational systems fail to teach you, the tools which remain elusive for most people for the whole of their lives, which is why I have dedicated my life to learning, developing and teaching the most effective methods to live beyond anxiety.
