NLP and Communication
In NLP, communication skills are key! – NLP teaches you how to communicate exceptionally well and build rapport with others where it was previously difficult. Keep reading to find out how.
Why is communication important?
Because you cannot not communicate, one of the presuppositions of NLP! You are communicating every moment of every day even when you are not speaking, communication leaks out all of the time. You may already know that according to Mehrabian only 7% of importance of communication is the words we speak! The remainder of importance is 55% body language and 38% tonality.
We all communicate differently
Everyone communicates in different ways with different preferences, but without training in NLP we do not know how to spot this. Have you every tried to communicate with someone and it was filled with misunderstandings and frustrations? Before I studied NLP me too! It’s enough to drive you crazy, whether this be clients, colleagues, bosses, students or anyone else you may be communicating with.
NLP communication skills
When people become NLP Practitioners they learn how to use NLP to communicate with anyone, it is the responsibility of the NLP Practitioner to adapt and have behavioural flexibility to deliver information and communicate in a way which matches others map of reality. To communicate well we must use the types of words and delivery which resonate with the individual. If I am delivering a training to a corporate organisation on leadership I will be using different methods of communication than if I am delivering at a wellbeing conference. Imagine how much easier life will be when you can adapt your language and communicate so it hits home every time.
Which of these sentences resonates with you the most?
